| Amra is a lecturer in Islamic Studies and Arabic and has been a lecturer in Islamic Studies and Arabic at Birmingham University and The University of Warwick. She is a course convenor for Islam and Gender at the New Cambridge Muslim College. With
20 years experience in community work Amra has given a
multitude of presentations on Islam at all levels from UK schools through to international conferences in Germany,
Britain and Jerusalem.
Since 2005 Amra has been a member of the Birmingham Shariah Council which adjudicates on Islamic divorces. This has been the subject of a number of television documentaries including Inside Out and Celebrity Divorce Shariah Style for the BBC
Amra is a member of the National Muslim Women's Advisory Group and a member of the the Muslim Faith Leaders Training Review Board. She is also a member of the West Midlands Faith Forum Executive and
the national Sikh-Muslim Action Group. Her particular areas of interest are gender issues and interfaith.
