COVENTRY CITY COMMUNITY IFTAR (Aerosol Arabic)

Cathedral and Coventry University)

Young people from Coventry joined artist Mohammed Ali to create unique artwork to be screened at the Herbert. Graffiti style arabic text fused with digital animation is now
projected onto the wall of the Herbert after dusk each evening in Ramadan, when the
daily fast ends.

The project was commissioned by The Herbert, Coventry's Museum and Gallery as part
of the Festival of Islamic Culture, and was developed closely with Coventry City Circle to
offer young local Muslims a chance to celebrate positive and powerful aspects of their
faith to thousands of people in Coventry's City Centre.

Mohammed Ali has a unique style influenced by both Urban-Street graffiti as well as
classical Islamic calligraphy to create "urban spiritual art", and has exhibited work
internationally.
